New EV3 Robot
We splurged and purchased the new EV3 kit for the kids to use. It has some great sensors, including a gyroscope. The programming interface has changed a fair amount, and the robot has a lot more ports for motors and sensors making it much more versatile.Apologies
I wanted to apologize for the the sporadic nature of our meetings this summer. Summer weekends have filled up quickly for us, and made it difficult for us to meet as regularly as we would have liked. I think the kids are still making great progress in learning about the robot and the sensors, and I feel like they will be able to make use of them during the competition this year.Community Education
We are just starting to look into doing Dexbots through Dexter Community Education. I have just found the necessary form required to fill out, and will be filling this out and submitting it shortly. We are hoping that offering it through Community Ed will allow us to fill out our team and will hopefully give us a great place to practice. From the Kids
What we did in the 7/13 meeting was we created a bumper out of two touch sensors. When any of the touch sensors would be retracted by another moving or non-moving object, our robot would keep moving forwards for a couple more seconds then stop... The robot would keep going backwards for one rotation then do the whole program all over again. We switched it to 100 rotations but found out that it had to finish all 100 rotations before it could go backwards. We fixed it to go forward but It needed to complete its 100 rotations .- we changed it again to go backward, then sense, back, sense etc. when the robot sensed an object hitting the touch sensor it would move forwards.
We watched some videos of the new and improved software/ new robot.
